MPICT Co-PI
Tim
Ryan is a Co-PI of the Mid-Pacific ICT Center (MPICT),
established in October 2008 with a $3 million Advanced
Technological Education grant from the National Science
Foundation. MPICT’s mission is to coordinate, promote and
improve ICT education, with an emphasis on 2-year colleges, in
northern California, northern Nevada, southern Oregon, Hawaii
and the Pacific Territories.
In this role Mr. Ryan will evaluate and support technologies
and solutions used by MPICT; facilitate collaborations between
academic and ITS departments at Regional Partner and associate
colleges; develop content to augment ICT curriculum with
real-life examples; promote better use of Internet2 by MPICT
colleges; and coordinate IEEE outreach and Student Chapter
activities.
From 2005 to 2008, Mr. Ryan was a founder and Co-PI of the
Institute for Convergence of Optical and Network Systems
(ICONS), funded with a $750K ATE grant to educate technicians
in converged network technologies at the leading edge of
communications technology trends. With Mr. Ryan’s assistance,
the City College CNIT Department became the first Juniper
Networks Academic Alliance member in North America.
Mr. Ryan is also the Manager, Network and Web Services in the
Information Technology Services Department at City College of
San Francisco, a position he has held since May, 2002. He is
responsible for the design, implementation and support of
communications and computing services across 10 campuses
including a fiber-based metro area network, a 2,000 node
Alcatel-Lucent VoIP telephone system and a Content Management
System.
Prior to employment with City College, Mr. Ryan was the Lead
Network Engineer and Manager of Service Activation for Yipes
Communications, which was a pioneering Metro Ethernet services
provider with operations in 20 cities across the U.S. He was
also employed as a Network Engineer at McKesson Corporation
with the responsibility for providing nationwide voice and
data communications services within the Pharmaceutical
Distribution and Healthcare industries.
Mr. Ryan holds a BSEE degree from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo
and a Master of Science in Information Systems from the
University of San Francisco.
