This year, IBM’s Academic Initiative is celebrating its 5th
year with an improved website!
Members get access to a wide range of assets, for themselves
and their students, are eligible for discounts and assistance,
and can build collaborative partnerships with IBM and other
institutions in the open source community.
To join, faculty complete a simple, 2-step registration form.
Then, most IBM offerings are no charge, including downloads of
full-version IBM software and courseware, remote access to
System Z and I hardware systems, access to online technical
training, discounts on IBM certification tests, select
conferences, books and more. There is no limit on the number
of members from a school that can join.
Resources of note include:
•
Innov8 V2, award-winning “serious” simulation game
providing an intro to business process management
• ACM Mapping Guidelines
•
Cloud Computing for Developers 10/1/09 virtual event
• 2009
Master the Mainframe Student Contest with prizes -
requires no faculty time or resources other than to inform the
students of the website
•
Smarter Planet initiatives and courseware
•
Virtual Innovation Center access
These free, extraordinary educator resources are underutilized
by community colleges, and MPICT would like to encourage
faculty to check them out.
