Workforce Investment Boards are private sector-led
organizations that develop and promote strategic solutions to
workforce issues in their regions. There is a
California
Workforce Investment Board (WIB), and there are
49 local Workforce Investment Boards.
Workforce Investment Boards are supported and staffed by a
broad coalition of constituents, including business, labor,
public education, higher education, training and economic
development. Their clients include job seekers, businesses,
and youth. The services provided by Workforce Development
Boards include:
-
Establishing local, regional, and state workforce
development policies
-
Providing job seekers with training and information about
employment opportunities
-
Helping businesses with human resources, marketing, and
financial advice and tools
-
Supporting youth with academic assistance, job readiness,
and employment eligibility information
To improve the relevance of ICT educational offerings and
workforce development efforts, it is important to understand
and interact with your local WIB. How do they see the ICT
workforce needs in your area? Can they help connect you with
major employers of ICT talent? Can they help connect your
programs with the many funding opportunities they are aware
of? Can they help your students get jobs? There are many
opportunities to learn from and collaborate with your local
WIB.
Work with local Workforce Investment Boards to improve the
relevance of what you do, to develop contacts and resources
and to help your students become productive members of the ICT
workforce.
