Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Educator Resources - Statewide Career Pathways

Instructional and Program Design

Statewide Career Pathways promotes curricular linkages, or "articulation," between high school and community college courses to facilitate students' smooth transition to college and expedite their progress towards their career goals.  “Articulated courses” taken by students in high school or Regional Occupational Center and Programs (ROCPs) are designed as part of a coherent curricular sequence that continues through community college coursework.

This website is focused on serving high school and community college faculty who design and deliver articulated curricula.  It also contains information for students, parents, advisors, and counselors.  The main resource provided by the Statewide Career Pathways website is a database of "articulation agreements."  Each agreement describes a CTE course taught at a high school, Regional Occupational Center and Program (ROCP), or community college.  It also provides resources and support for developing new and better articulation agreements.

We need to do a better job attracting and retaining students in ICT education and career pipelines.  The better developed and articulated those pathways, the more students we serve and the better the ICT workforce we develop.  Make sure your articulation agreements are included in the Statewide Career Pathways database!  Develop new articulation agreements between high schools and community colleges for ICT!  Develop powerful dual enrollment courses between high schools and community colleges!

The Articulation Agreements section provides a database of articulation agreements.  Articulation agreements contain information about a course's content, prerequisites, objectives, instructional materials, and assessment methods.  Users of this website can search the database of articulation agreements by career path (“Information Technology” is the pathway for ICT), as well as by more specific disciplines within each career path.  For Information Technology, they are CIS/Cisco A+, CIS/Computer Programming, IT Applications and IT Web Design.  Explore articulation agreements in your area!  Where are the gaps and opportunities?  Fill them!  Let’s develop and fill ICT pathways from K-12 to college!

Teachers and faculty can download articulation agreement templates, modify them for their own use, and upload them for addition to the online database in the Articulation Templates section of the website.  There are currently about 15 ICT related articulation templates available.  Let’s develop more!  Do you have something new or better you could share to make this easier and better for all of us?  Adapt one of these templates to develop your own articulation agreements!  There is a forum for articulation templates.

In the Student/Parent section, there is information about articulation, why it is important, and the benefits of community colleges, including:

·         What is articulation and why should it matter to me?

·         Why community college instead of a four-year institution?

·         Will going to community college really save that much money?

·         Why community college instead of a private vocational school?

·         How do I know if I qualify to take advantage of articulation?

·         I’m not sure I can afford to attend college. Is there financial aid available?

The Faculty/Teacher section provides information about articulation for California community college faculty, high school teachers, and ROCP teachers.  For CCC faculty, there is an explanation for why community college faculty should participate in articulation programs with high schools. For high school and ROCP teachers there is an article about why high school and ROCP teachers should participate in articulation programs with community colleges.  See also What can this project do for me?

The Advisor/Counselor section explains what these professionals need to know about articulation, and how it can benefit their students, including:

·         What should I know about these articulation agreements?

·         How can this project benefit my students?
