Development and Delivery of Instruction

Learn to share ... share to learn

Are your students burdened by the high cost of ICT textbooks?  Do you want to provide them with better materials at lower costs?  Do you want to modify the textbooks for your classes and share them with your colleagues?  Empowered by digital technologies and open licensing agreements, open educational resources are gaining momentum as solutions to these issues.

The OER Center for California helps community college faculty locate, create, remix, use, and share openly licensed teaching and learning materials.  Their website provides links to sources of open textbooks, courseware, instructional units and media.  Take advantage of these great FREE resources to supplement your existing course materials or completely replace the proprietary teaching materials that you currently use – and that make your classes expensive for students.

Have materials you want to share?  Use Creative Commons or another open license and contribute to the OER community.

In the Community College Consortium for Open Educational Resources, Open Textbooks section, you’ll find links to a directory of open college textbooks sorted by discipline. Check out the Computer Science and Engineering sections for those related to ICT.  Can we offer other ICT related open textbooks to this great resources sharing site?

The OER Training section of the OER Center website provides an extensive collection of introductory and background information about OER resources. You can learn about types of open license agreements, OER peer review, how to get printed copies of electronic resources, and creating open educational resources.

Open Textbook Adoption is a free online course that teaches you how to find, review, select, customize, and distribute an open textbook.

Contributing to and using open textbooks and other open learning resources are great ways to improve ICT education and reduce the cost of ICT education.  Let’s be a part of that!
