ICT Programs and Events

To transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology heroes.

Want to get your students excited about learning ICT?  FIRST inspires K-12 student to become scientists and engineers by engaging them in teams that build robots and compete in robotics competitions.  Are your ICT students over 18?  They can still participate in FIRST as mentors and volunteers.  Helping teams of K-12 students can be a great first step toward a rewarding career in ICT.

We have a national crisis in attracting and cultivating students into educational and career pathways in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), which includes ICT.  We need to successfully reach and appeal to people very early in their academic careers to address this major issue.  FIRST is an example of how we might do better at that.  Become involved!  Can we do something like this that is more specific to ICT?

FIRST offers these robotics programs.

Whether or not you or your ICT students have technical expertise, they can be mentors for FIRST robotics teams.  They enjoy a rewarding experience as they support, encourage, and inspire their team to succeed.

A recent study found that FIRST students are more than three times as likely to major in engineering as their peers with similar backgrounds. The FIRST website provides more details of the impact of participation.

In 2010, over 200,000 students from 12 countries will participate in over 19,000 FIRST teams.  And, more than 90,000 volunteers will help make FIRST happen.  Students will be awarded over $12 million in college scholarships through their participation in FIRST.  Furthermore, participants can continue lifelong involvement through the FIRST Community.
