Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Educator Resources - ICT Diversity - Women in Technology

 

 

Women in Technology (WIT) was founded in 1994 and represents professionals who work for technology companies or those that support technology companies in the metropolitan Washington, DC region. WIT has almost 1,000 members. Membership profile information: 63% have been in the technology industry for more than 10 years; 19% have 6-10 years of experience. This may be a model for people interested in improving the representation of women in ICT in the MPICT region.


The mission to advance women in technology from the classroom to the boardroom is by providing advocacy, leadership development, networking, mentoring and technology education.


WIT is the premier organization empowering women to be architects of change in the technology industry.
To achieve its mission and vision, WIT has:

  • Monthly programs (WIT.Connect) on a variety of topics with a diverse array of speakers. Each program has a networking and educational component.

  • Member networking luncheons at a variety of locations around the DC Metro Region.

  • Annual Leadership Awards Banquet, recognizing women in technology organizations or affiliated organizations for their outstanding leadership and accomplishments in the areas of mentoring, entrepreneurship, and technology.

  • Special events facilitate networking and draw attention to WIT and/or the technology industry.

  • WIT.Wire twice monthly keeps members informed on the latest news and events via an electronic newsletter.

Special Interest Groups (SIGs)

Wit has Six Special Interest Groups (SIGs) to address audience-specific issues—Diversity Outreach, Executive Women, Women Business Owners, Technology, Sales & Marketing and Young Professionals.

Girls in Technology

Girls In Technology (GIT) is an outreach program that provides scholarships, mentoring, speakers and other types of support for school-based and community programs that foster technology interest in elementary, middle, and high school girls, especially disadvantaged girls.

Special Programs

WIT sponsors a variety of Special Programs designed to support professional growth, career development and community service. Programs are designed to address specific needs in the information technology arena that require multiple sessions or events to address. Check out the Mentor-Protégé Program.

Committees

Committees are composed of members who organize and support WIT's infrastructure and programs. If you are a WIT member, they encourage you to join committees and SIGs. The committees available are: Advocacy, Communications, Girls in Technology, Lunch Bunch, Membership, Mentorship, Programs, Special Events, Sponsorship, Strategic Alliance, Web Presence, Women In Government, Workforce Development, and Charity Golf Tournament.

Job Bank Welcome to the new searchable Women in Technology Job Bank. WIT members can post jobs at no charge, and listings can be viewed only by WIT members. There is a $50 charge for non-members to post a listing on the WIT.
