African-American Women in Technology (AAWIT) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the education, support and advancement of African-American women in the field of Information Technology.

AAWIT encourages, promotes and serves the interest(s) of African-American women in Information Technology, striving to help its members advance their careers and enhance their personal development through special resources and networking opportunities. AAWIT.net is an informative, educational, resourceful, online community and is research, quality and community oriented.

Some of AAWIT’s major goals are:

  • To become the number one, internationally known, online resource for African-American women in the field of Information Technology, as well as those who simply wish to enhance their careers and personal development.

  • To partner with corporations that share the same values and interests and deliver outstanding benefits and services to its members including national and local seminars and conferences, career development and training.

  • To attract African-American women from other professions to the field of IT.

  • To give a yearly scholarship to an African-American female student who has excelled academically and wishes to pursue a career in Information Technology.

  • To encourage and assist in the further training and certification of women employed in the IT field.

On the Resume Bank page, members can post their resumes as well as a resume video and apply for jobs posted by companies who are looking to hire candidates from the African-American female market. Hiring Managers and Recruiters who are looking to diversify their workplace can search the resume database for qualified candidates.
The AAWIT Big Sister Network is a short-term, advice-based program, which allows AAWIT members to be mentored by other women who are more advanced and knowledgeable in their respective careers and personal development. Women do not need to be employed in or aspiring to be employed in the field of Information Technology to become a mentor
The private member-only area of the site provides information and resources for training, events, support and news. There is a wealth of information and resources for members to interact with, learn from and even assist other members from around the nation. Members have access to the online IT and self-help libraries, the AAWIT volunteer bank, where members can work on real web sites while building their professional resume and portfolio. There is also a national member directory and an event calendar and a job board with postings that specifically target minority candidates.
