Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Educator Resources - CTE Online

Instructional and Program Design

CTE Online provides tools, resources and a community for CTE teachers and curriculum developers.  Primarily, it helps K-12 and Regional Occupational Center and Program (ROP) educators develop curricula that are correlated with California CTE Standards.  The main resource of the CTE Online website is the Curriculum Organizer, an online tool that allows the automated entry of CTE Standards, and O-NET and California Basic Educational Data System (CBEDS) codes directly into required curriculum outlines to facilitate certification by the California Department of Education.  This is a burdensome and difficult process for teachers, and these very valuable tools make it more efficient for teachers to meet these requirements and justify their CTE courses by mapping to and meeting required academic standards.  Teams of educators can use the Curriculum Organizer to share curriculum outlines and learn from each other.  CTE Online also provides training for the Curriculum Organizer and a discussion forum.

The Tools section of the website contains the Curriculum Organizer, a web-based tool that allows teachers to correlate the reading, writing, and speaking skills within their curricula to content standards used in the Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) and California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE) assessments.  Links to California Industry and Occupation Staffing Patterns and CAHSEE Resources are also located in the Tools Section.

The Communication Tools section provides access to CTE Online Discussion Forums and Announcements.

The Standards section allows you to view the following educational standards:

·         California Career and Technical Education Standards

·         California Academic Content Standards

·         California Challenge Standards

·         California Standards for the Teaching Profession

·         English Language Development Standards

·         Secretary's Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills (SCANS)

CTE Standards for IT exist, and ICT educators should be aware of them:

·         Foundation Standards

·         Pathway A. Information Support and Services

·         Pathway B. Media Support and Services

·         Pathway C. Network Communications

Pathway D. Programming and Systems Development

In 2008, California submitted the 2008-2012 California State Plan for CTE to the federal government to become eligible for funding under the Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006. This plan is available in the CTE State Plan section of the CTE Online website.
