ICT/CTE Funding

In 2005, California created its Career Technical Education (CTE) Pathways and Workforce Development Program to align K-12 career technical education (CTE) with local community colleges based on models consistent with the California Community Colleges’ Economic Workforce Development (EWD) Program.  As more educators, industry, parents, and policy makers recognized the demographic, economic, and educational benefits of revitalizing CTE, California increased funding for CTE through SB 70 and SB 1133.

To date, California has invested roughly $140 million in the CTE Pathways Initiative (SB 70 and SB 1133) for 728 projects in four years. These funds increased students’ knowledge of and access to college and careers; supported creation of new CTE courses; enhanced existing courses to integrate CTE and core subject areas; provided career exploration opportunities for middle school students and job shadowing, internships, and work-based learning for older students; sponsored faculty externships and professional development; and compensated coordinators to network and build relationships with local employers and industry leaders.

CTE Pathways Initiative (SB 70 and SB 1133) funds provided opportunities for community colleges, K-12, ROCP, adult education, industry members to work together to build CTE programs in their local communities. These funds address needs otherwise unmet, fill gaps, jumpstart programs, and provide human capital for connecting educators to local business/industry leaders and building CTE opportunities for more students.

CTE Central provides a resource for those interested in implementing comprehensive CTE programs to access information, resources, and tools in one location.

Many community college ICT related programs fit into the CTE framework.  Explore this site to learn more about how you might acquire and use CTE funding to improve ICT related programs!

CTE in Action profiles selected CTE programs and specifies their sources of funding.

The Resources section of CTE Central lists a wide variety of CTE related reports, websites, surveys and projects categorized by topic.
