Leadership and Quality Assurance in Applied Science, Computing, Engineering, and Technology Education

Have you and your colleagues worked hard to establish high standards your ICT education program? Does your program do a great job preparing students for careers in ICT? How can you communicate the value of your program to potential students, other institutions, and professionals in the professions for which you prepare students? ABET has a solution. ABET provides accreditation services that independently assure the integrity, quality, and effectiveness of your program. Through ABET accreditation, you can establish independent recognition of your program’s accomplishments for all relevant constituencies.

Here’s what you’ll find at the ABET website:

What is Accreditation?

ABET accreditation is a voluntary, peer-review process that assures that programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and technology meet quality standards established by the profession in which they prepare students.

The process of accreditation begins with requesting a program evaluation from ABET. Each program then completes a self-study questionnaire as it conducts an internal evaluation. Following your self-study, an evaluation team of volunteers from academe, government, and industry visit your campus to review course materials and student work, interview faculty and students, and clarify any issues that arose in the self-study. The evaluation team produces a report which allows you to correct any misinterpretations and address any shortcomings. Then, a final report along with an accreditation recommendation is provided to an ABET commission for a vote on the accreditation of your program.

ABET has four commissions, Applied Science, Computing, Engineering, and Technology.

Want to learn more about the accreditation process? ABET provides information for programs seeking initial accreditation, including accreditation criteria, policy and procedures and step-by-step instructions.

Find an Accredited Program

The ABET website contains an online database of accredited programs that is searchable by country, state, program area, and ABET commission (Engineering, Computing, Technology, and Applied Science). You can use this database to find out which programs in your field have already attained ABET accreditation.

Faculty Development

ABET sponsors workshops, webinars, and institutes to train faculty to develop and implement assessment plans, as well as design and manage processes that make their programs more accountable and effective. ABET’s annual meeting also provides an opportunity to learn about accreditation and network with colleagues at other colleges and universities.
