Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Education at Umpqua Community College

Umpqua Community College (UCC) is one of the most picturesque colleges in the country, nestled between beautiful tree-studded hills and overlooking a large bend in the North Umpqua River.  Natural volcanic rock and rustic, cedar shake architecture grace the 14 campus buildings located on a 100-acre plot of land six miles north of Roseburg.  Roseburg is located in southern Oregon on Interstate Highway 5, 71 miles (113.6 kilometers) south of Eugene and 175 miles (280 kilometers) south of Portland, the largest city in Oregon.  Since its founding as a post-secondary education facility, it has grown and changed to meet the diverse needs of the community.  More than 15,000 students take one or more classes each year, roughly 3,000 full-time equivalent (FTE) students.

UCC’s Computer Science Transfer Program is mathematically based, following the recommendations of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), and it prepares students for transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a bachelor’s degree in computer science.  Computer science is the study of programs, data, computing machinery, and how they interact.  Majors in computer science are offered at UO, OSU, PSU, WOU, and SOU.  The UCC program in computer science is approved for transfer to these institutions. For more information please call (541)440-4701 or email.

UCC’s Computer Information Systems Program is a two-year sequence of classes designed to prepare a student for employment in the computer area as an entry-level network administrator, computer support person, Web designer, or computer programmer.  In addition, the CIS program provides a strong foundation in basic business and accounting principles and practices.  A number of our courses are taught such that students can become Microsoft and Cisco certified. Microsoft Certified Systems Administrators (MCSAs) and Cisco Certified Networking Associates (CCNAs) are highly-desired by employers throughout the state.  UCC enjoys affiliation with the Sutherlin Cisco Networking Academy, and UCC is a Vue and Prometric testing center.  Students can take all Microsoft and Cisco certification exams on campus.
