Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Education at Sierra College

 

Sierra College (SC), in Rocklin, is located near the foothills of the beautiful Sierra Nevada, one half-hour from the State Capitol, 108 miles northeast of San Francisco and 110 miles southwest of Reno, NV.  In addition to the 300 acre Rocklin campus, the District has a 115 acre Nevada County Campus in Grass Valley, a new campus in Truckee and a campus in Roseville. The Sierra Community College District covers over 3,200 square miles – an area larger than Delaware – and serves Placer, Nevada and parts of El Dorado and Sacramento counties.  SC offers 67 AA degrees, 67 AS degrees, 53 Certificate of Achievement and 26 Skills Certificate programs to 17,000 credit and 20,000 non-credit students in a variety of configurations taught by 950 faculty members.  Faculty members typically have a Master’s degree and enhance teaching with research, authorship and industry expertise.

SC’s Computer Information Systems (CIS) Department prepares students for occupations that involves computer applications, database, technical and customer support services, web authoring/developing, Internet information researcher/architect, computer technician, network administration and database administration. Some courses prepare students for industry certifications, such as CompTIA’s, A+ or Microsoft’s MSCE.  The curriculum also provides valuable computer experience and training for students enrolled in other disciplines at the College.  CIS offers AS and AA degrees and certificates in Administrative Technical Support, Computer Applications, Computer Service Technologist, Computer Support, Internet, Networking, and Virtual Office Professional – Technical Support, Administrative or Web Management concentrations.  CIS offers certificates in PC Care, Microsoft Office Specialist, Online Business Skills, Web Page Editor and Web Site Production.  For more information, come by room B3, Carner Hall on the Rocklin campus, call (916) 660-7800 or email.

SC’s Computer Integrated Electronics (CIE) Department provides the practical knowledge and experience to install, program and maintain business computing equipment, or the computer controlled electro-mechanical equipment used for measurement and control during product manufacturing.  The Electronics Technology Concentration provides the practical knowledge and experience to troubleshoot and repair electronic analog and digital electronic equipment at the component level.  CIE offers AA or AS degrees in CIE with concentrations in Computer Technology, Electronics Technology or Mechatronics Technology.  CIE offers certificates in Computer Technology, Opto Electronic Technician, Electro-Mechanical Skills, Linear Electronics Skills and Personal Computer Technician Skills.  For more information, come by room B3, Carner Hall on the Rocklin campus, call (916) 660-7800 or email.
