Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Education at Monterey Peninsula College

 

Monterey Peninsula College (MPC) is recognized for fifty years of quality higher educational services to the Greater Monterey Peninsula area, outstanding transfer education, occupational programs serving employment needs in our area and learning opportunities for students of all ages.  It endeavors to assist all who participate in its varied objectives to realize their highest potential as individuals, and also to realize their rights, freedoms and responsibilities in the community and the larger society of which they are a part.   The college offers courses to prepare students for transfer to four-year institutions, to prepare for the workplace, to update work skills or prepare for a new career, to gain a general education, and to improve basic skills in mathematics, reading, writing and science.  From its main campus in Monterey, and its other locations in Seaside and Marina, MPC serves about 14,000 students with about 300 faculty annually.

MPC’s Computer Science and Information Systems Department offers comprehensive programs leading to transfer, vocational and job training in a number of areas.  Degrees and certificates are offered in Computer Information Systems Design, Computer Software Applications and Computer Technology.   The curriculum places emphasis on the general principles, concepts, skills and competencies required for future education and work in this field.  Additional programs are being developed in networking technologies, Web page design and Web master skills.

MPC’s Business Department Business Skills Center offers wide range of office technology or business computer application classes.  Course syllabi and requirements are explained when students come in to the lab.  Students work at their own pace, with the assistance of an instructor, and choose the days and hours that are convenient for them.  Upon the completion of the course objectives, students will be awarded units and may leave the program.  One or more courses may be taken during the same semester.  The Center is located in Room BC204 in the Business Computing building.  For more information, come by or call (831) 646-4077.
