Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Education at Merced College

Merced College, with campuses in Merced and Los Banos, believes a democratic society functions best when its members are educated and active participants.  Education involves having a respect for and awareness of all cultures, as well as the dignity and worth of all individuals.  Serving more than 20,000 students annually, the Merced College mission is:  “Students are our focus and we are known by their success.”  Merced College is part of the Higher Education Consortium of Central California (HECCC), along with CSU-Stanislaus, San Joaquin Delta College, UC-Merced, Yosemite Community College District, Modesto Junior College and Columbia College.  This partnership of two universities and four community colleges has developed dynamic and evolving collaborations, shared intellectual capital, facilitated innovative projects, promoted professional development and increased equitable access to higher education in a distinctively diverse region since 1981.

The Business Division  Computer Studies Department, notes that over the past two decades, there has been a sharp rise in the use of computers and information technology in every sector of our economy.  Demand for computer professionals (systems analysts, programmers and networking technicians) continues to expand, increasing every year with the future seemingly limitless.  Many professions demand an understanding of information technology beyond computer literacy.  This anticipated growth, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, surpasses all other occupations.  The Computer Studies Department offers almost 20 courses, leading to AS degrees in Computer Science (CS) and Management Information Systems (MIS).  For more information, please call (209) 384-6120, visit the Lesher Student Services Center to speak with a counselor or email.
