Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Education at Los Medanos College

Los Medanos College (LMC) is located on a 120 acre campus in Pittsburg, with a remote Center in Brentwood.  Opened in 1974, the college is one of three publicly supported two-year community colleges in the Contra Costa Community College District (along with Contra Costa College and Diablo Valley College).  Current enrollment is around 14,000 students.  LMC currently offers 33 different associate degrees and 24 certificates of achievement.  Many students complete their first two years of college here and transfer on to 4-year colleges and universities all over the country.  Others move right into a specialized career or enhance their skills for today’s workforce.  The college's facilities were expanded significantly with the completion of a new library and math building in the summer of 2007, and a new science building in the spring of 2008.  This expansion increased the available instructional space by approximately 50%.  LMC has a general education computer literacy competency requirement.

LMC’s Computer Science (CS) Department offers a broad selection of computer classes designed around the needs of today's workplace.  Today, it seems just about everyone uses a computer at work.  Administrative assistants use computers for word processing; auto mechanics for engine diagnostics; architects to draw blueprints; teachers to automate grade books; and the list goes on.  In fact, it is difficult to find a job today that does not make use of computers.  Specialists write the software, designs the hardware, configures the networks, installs the security programs, and troubleshoots the technical problems.  No matter who you are, where you work, what you do, or how old you are, you can benefit from developing microcomputer skills.  Our program is structured so you can take a few basic skills classes, acquire a Skills Certificate in PC Repair, Computer Forensics/Help Desk or Web Design, or elect to complete our entire Certificate of Achievement as a Microcomputer Systems Specialist .   The curriculum includes courses with extensive hands-on experience with up-to-date computer equipment, wireless technology and programs.   Essential job related skills are stressed in all classes and are continuously updated to reflect current technology.  For more information, please call (925) 439-2181 ext. 3307 or email.
