Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Education at Lake Tahoe Community College

Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC), in the heart of South Lake Tahoe, is the highest college in California, at 6,229 feet above sea level.  Some 4,000 students attend LTCC each quarter.  Beyond the classrooms and labs, the 164-acre wooded campus features a 192-seat theater, extensive art labs, a demonstration garden, a 26,000 square foot gymnasium with a dance studio and fitness education center, and a student center, which includes a café, Internet terminals, and teaching kitchens for the culinary arts program.  Outdoor recreation can be found all year in South Lake Tahoe, a town of about 24,000 residents. Students are within minutes of three ski resorts, and there are 14 ski resorts around the lake.  Summer brings water sports, fishing, hiking, camping and an extensive network of mountain biking trails.  The sun shines an average 75 percent or 274 days each year, giving students plenty of opportunities to get out and explore the Sierra Nevada.

The Computer and Information Sciences Program (CIS) is designed to provide education and training for students who plan a career working with computers, for those currently working in computer-related fields wanting to enhance their training and for students planning to pursue a bachelor's degree.  Course offerings prepare students for:  various phases of employment in the computer industry; an AA Degree or Certificate of Achievement in CIS-Web Development; transfer to a four-year institution as a computer science major; training for use of technology in other professions; and personal knowledge and enrichment.  Throughout the curriculum, emphasis is placed on blending fundamental theory and technique with practical applications in a hands-on learning environment.
