Information and
Communication Technologies (ICT) Education at Folsom Lake
College

Folsom Lake College (FLC) is a coeducational,
public community college in Folsom Lake,
California, with
Centers in Placerville and Rancho Cordova.
Along with American River, Sacramento City and
Cosumnes River Colleges, FLC is part of the 2,400
square mile, 80,000 student
Los Rios Community College District,
which serves Sacramento and El Dorado counties and
parts of Yolo, Placer, and Solano counties. The
109th California Community College,
Folsom Lake College enrolls over 8,000 students
per semester and is known for its programs in
science, family and social work, and liberal
arts. Its almost 300 faculty members, 12
administrators and 100 classified staff offer
students over 1,000 course sections, 30 different
Associate of Arts or Science degree options, as
well as over 30 certificates. |

The FLC Computer Information Science
program consists of courses, certificates, and
degrees in a variety of areas related to
computing. Individual
courses are organized into groups, related to
computer application user skills (CISA),
programming (CISP), the web (CISW), and general
“core” topics (CISC). Students interested in a
certificate or degree may choose from
educational programs organized into groups.
Computer Science and Programming offers an A.S.
degree in Computer Science and Certificates of
Achievement in Programming and Windows
Programming. Database Technology and Information
Technology offers a Certificate of Recognition for
Database Analyst-SQL and Certificates of
Achievement for Computer Programmer- SQL,
Relational Database and Web Developer. Management
Information Systems offers Certificates of
Recognition in Web Publishing and M.I.S.-Application
Data Entry, as well as Certificates of Achievement
for M.I.S.-Application Technician and M.I.S.-Information

The Engineering Program
at FLC provides the foundation in mathematics,
physics, and engineering necessary to transfer to
a university and complete a bachelor’s degree in
engineering, because most engineering careers
require a bachelor’s degree. Engineering involves
the application of scientific and mathematical
principles needed to solve practical technical
problems. Although the first two years of
engineering courses for all engineering degrees
are similar, students should consult the lower
division requirements of the institution to which
they wish to transfer. Career Options include
Aerospace Engineer, Architectural Engineer,
Biomedical Engineer, Chemical Engineer, Civil
Engineer, Computer Engineer, Electrical Engineer,
Environmental Engineer and Mechanical Engineer.
