Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Education at College of the Redwoods

College of the Redwoods (CR), formed in 1964, now serves as a district Humboldt County, coastal Mendocino County, Del Norte County and a portion of Trinity County.  Its main campus, just south of Eureka, offers more than 1,000 classes per semester to about 5,000 students.  CR also offers courses at Arcata, Del Norte, Eureka Downtown, Klamath-Trinity, McKinleyville, Mendocino Coast and Southern Humboldt campuses.  CR has 3 equally important, primary missions:  1) rigorous, high-quality educational programs leading to the AA or AS Degrees, Certificates of Achievement or Certificates of Completion; 2) high-quality core curriculum satisfying lower-division general education and/or major preparation requirements for transfer to four-year colleges and universities; and 3) high-quality professional and technical programs that allow students to obtain skills necessary to enter or advance in the workforce or be better prepared for further education.  To the extent possible, the District also provides life-long learning opportunities, and opportunities for enhancing and promoting the general welfare of the community:  1) state-funded, non-credit adult education classes in response to local interests and needs and in cooperation with other local providers; 2) self-supporting avocational, recreational, and professional development community service classes, as well as cultural and community programs; and 3) efforts with local business and industry and other educational and government agencies to foster the economic vitality of the North Coast region.

CR’s Computer Information Sciences (CIS) Department offers AS degrees in Digital Media, CIS Networking, Office Professional, Computer Support Specialist and General Business; Certificates of Achievement in Digital Media, CIS Networking, Medical Office Business Skills and General Business; and more than 30 courses.  “Through an integrated business and technological curriculum, we strive to inspire and empower students to become innovative contributors to our ever-changing local and global communities.  This is our core purpose.”  For more information, please call 800-641-0400 or email.
