College of the Redwoods (CR),
formed in 1964, now serves as a district Humboldt
County, coastal Mendocino County, Del Norte County
and a portion of Trinity County. Its main
campus, just south of Eureka, offers more than
1,000 classes per semester to about 5,000
students. CR also offers courses at
Arcata,
Del Norte,
Eureka Downtown,
Klamath-Trinity,
McKinleyville,
Mendocino Coast and
Southern Humboldt campuses. CR has 3 equally
important, primary missions: 1) rigorous,
high-quality educational programs leading to the
AA or AS Degrees, Certificates of Achievement or
Certificates of Completion; 2) high-quality core
curriculum satisfying lower-division general
education and/or major preparation requirements
for transfer to four-year colleges and
universities; and 3) high-quality professional and
technical programs that allow students to obtain
skills necessary to enter or advance in the
workforce or be better prepared for further
education. To the extent possible, the District
also provides life-long learning opportunities,
and opportunities for enhancing and promoting the
general welfare of the community: 1)
state-funded, non-credit adult education classes
in response to local interests and needs and in
cooperation with other local providers; 2)
self-supporting avocational, recreational, and
professional development community service
classes, as well as cultural and community
programs; and 3) efforts with local business and
industry and other educational and government
agencies to foster the economic vitality of the
North Coast region. |
