Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Education at Central Oregon Community College

Central Oregon Community College (COCC)  is located in the heart of Central Oregon, and the heart of the Northwest’s best recreation activities... from hiking, biking and skiing to whitewater rafting, kayaking and rock climbing.  With views of the eight Cascade mountain peaks, 300 days of sunshine and less than 12 inches of rain annually, Bend is one of the country’s most desirable places to live.  COCC’s main campus is located just 1½ miles from downtown Bend, offering access to an incredible shopping, dining and entertainment district.  While considered a small town at approximately 75,000 residents, Bend offers all the amenities of larger cities.   COCC serves about 17,500 students annually and offers a residential dorm.  Class size averages only 24 students, which means personalized attention from 100 full-time, 37 adjunct and 125 part-time faculty.  Approximately 38 percent of full-time faculty members have Ph.D. or terminal degrees.  The COCC College District encompasses Deschutes, Crook and Jefferson counties, plus portions of Wasco, Lake and Klamath counties.  COCC also operates a campus in Redmond.

COCC’s Computer Information Systems (CIS) Program offers more than 40 courses, leading to an Associate of Applied Science in Computer Information Systems, with three emphasis options: Networking, Computer Aided Drafting (CAD), and Computer Support Services.  Our more than 20 high quality faculty members also offer an AA transfer degree, and certificates in Computer Aided Drafting and CIS.  For Additional Information, please call (541) 330-4354 or email.

COCC’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Program students create maps that identify quantities and/or densities, analyze what’s inside or near a study area, and indicate change, in information systems designed to work with data referenced by spatial or geographic coordinates.  The 1-year Certificate program is intended for someone with existing skills and/or an academic degree that wishes to obtain GIS specific tools for use in their discipline.  The 2-year Associate of Applied Science GIS Degree program is intended for someone who wishes to begin a career in GIS and has little or no technical or academic background.  View career pathways for information on where a GIS education can lead.  For Additional Information, please come by Ponderosa 223, call (541) 383-7703 or email.

COCC’s Health Information Technology (HIT) Program prepares students for local or national employment opportunities in medical, information management and computer technology fields.  HIT is among the top 10 fastest growing career areas in the U.S., including more than 40 work settings and more than 125 job titles, with salaries continually increasing due to the high demand for HIT professionals.  COCC’s HIT graduates rank as some of the top in the country.  HIT faculty members offer courses leading to either a Certificate of Completion or an Associate of Applied Science degree in HIT.   Furthermore, after graduation, the student may sit for the national accreditation examination in order to achieve the distinction of Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).  For Additional Information, see our video interviews, call (541) 383-7720 or email.
