Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Education at Berkeley City College

Berkeley City College (BCC), formerly Vista Community College, serves the northern Alameda County cities of Berkeley, Albany and Emeryville, from a brand new campus in downtown Berkeley, half a block from the downtown Berkeley BART station.  BCC maintains a strong and unique community college/university collaboration with the University of California at Berkeley, which is two blocks away. About a third of BCC’s classes are taught evenings and Saturdays through BCC on the U.C. campus.  BCC is part of the Peralta Community College district, along with Laney College in Oakland, Merritt College in Oakland and College of Alameda in Alameda.  More than 170 faculty members serve some 5,100 students at BCC per semester.

BCC’s Computer Information Systems (CIS) Department  courses improve computer and software knowledge and skills, for beginning and advanced computer students.  A two-year course sequence leads to an AS Degree and/or Certificate of Achievement in Applied Microcomputer Information Systems. The AS degree enables you to develop and/or upgrade your skills for career advancement. The Certificate qualifies you for entry-level employment in occupational settings that utilize computers and various software applications.  A separate two-year course sequence leads to an AS Degree and/or Certificate of Achievement in Web Programming, which prepares students for a career in programming for the Internet and World Wide Web, with job titles like web programmer, programmer/analyst, software developer and information technology professional.  For more information, please call (510) 981-2906 or email.

BCC’s Business Program offers an AA Degree and Certificate in Office Technology, which prepares students for administrative assistant, customer service, data entry, executive assistant and front desk positions, which the U.S. Department of Labor expects to grow by 10 to 35 percent through 2012.  For more information, please call (510) 981-2913.

BCC’s Multimedia Arts Program prepares people for entry-level jobs in Multimedia and provides skills-upgrading for those already employed in multimedia jobs. The program is interdisciplinary and focuses on developing fine art, critical thinking and computer skills. You may pursue Associate in Arts degrees or Certificates of Completion in Multimedia Arts, specializing in Animation, Digital Imaging, Digital Video Arts, Web Design & Production, or Writing for Multimedia.  A wide variety of courses are offered.  For more information, visit our website, call (510) 981-2904 or email.
