The
National Science Foundation is not currently very keen on
funding ICT curriculum development. ICT changes too quickly,
and new curriculum is too frequently limited in its reach and
impact. However, MPICT can help disseminate quality curriculum
and increase its use and impact.
Every ICT program acquires or develops curriculum for its
courses. Most of it is good. Some of it is outstanding.
Rather than each school developing
curriculum independently, with important
differences between schools sometimes,
doesn’t it make sense to make high quality
curriculum more widely available across the
region, so faculty can quickly adopt or
adapt it? We could reduce tremendous
duplications of effort and improve
harmonization between schools and programs.
MPICT can help by:
- Showcasing quality curriculum,
certificates and degree programs
- Helping students find programs,
degrees, certificates and courses within
the region
- Providing curriculum sharing and
collaboration vehicles
- Possibly coordinating curriculum
development efforts within the region
- Facilitating access to industry
developed curriculum and resources
- Hosting curriculum sharing workshops
- Developing an open and efficient ICT
learning objects repository
- Addressing the issue in faculty
professional development workshops and
conferences
- Championing alternate pedagogy to
improve student learning
Quality curriculum is key to quality ICT
education. Let’s make it more accessible and
useful.
