C.S.U admissions requirements for freshmen, graduate students and international students are best explored through CSUMentor.edu, which is also an excellent tool for exploring the CSUs in general. Admissions are competitive, based on academic requirements, academic performance, standardized test scores and personal situations. Some schools have higher standards, and some “highly impacted” programs (generally not ICT-related) have additional screening criteria because of high demand. Tuition, fees and cost of living for California residents are about $19,000 per year. For non-residents costs are about $6,000 more per year, with a possibility of establishing California residency to reduce costs in future years. A CSUCC (Cost Calculator) is available to estimate specific costs. Applications are completed online through CSUMentor.edu. Many CSU campuses have local admission guarantee policies for students who graduate or transfer from local high schools and community colleges.

An excellent strategy for acquiring a C.S.U. degree affordably is to attend a community college and transfer in as a Junior with 60 semester or 90 quarter units or as an underclassman with anything less. Admission offices at all C.S.U.s use a common set of factors to make admission decisions for both classes of transfer students. All have higher standards for out-of-state students and international transfer students. A tool called LDTP (Lower-Division Transfer Patterns) Search Module is available to help determine how to best transfer from a California community college.
